Roux Coturnix Quail

Description

The Roux Coturnix Quail is a particularly attractive colour variety of Coturnix, characterised by its warm reddish, cinnamon and chestnut colouring.

Roux is especially interesting to breeders because the mutation is sex linked, giving it additional value within carefully planned breeding programmes. This can be particularly useful in certain crosses where chick colouring can assist with identifying sex at an early age.

Importantly, being Roux does not automatically mean that every Roux chick is autosexing. The parent birds and genetic combination used are what determine whether an autosexing cross is produced.

Aside from their fascinating genetics, Roux Coturnix retain the qualities that make Coturnix such enjoyable birds to keep. They mature quickly, require relatively little space and females can become excellent layers of beautiful speckled quail eggs.
